New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…

Original story (published on February 1, 2021) follows:

The Xiaomi Redmi Note 9S is also known as Redmi Note 9 Pro in India and was released last year in April. Hence, it was only inevitable that it would receive the Android 11 update.

And the device recently did receive the Android 11 update in India, where as already mentioned, it is referred to as the Redmi Note 9 Pro for no apparent reason.

Following this, the Redmi Note 9S users have been waiting in anticipation to get a taste of Android 11 as well. And now, their time has finally arrived.

The Android 11 update has now begun to roll out for the device globally and should make it to yours pretty soon too. If it for some reason still hasn’t, then worry not, for Xiaomi rolls out updates in batches.

This is to ensure that some untoward bug doesn’t make it to the masses. Rolling out in batches allows the company to halt updates in case of any unexpected behavior with a minimal number of devices affected.

But again, the chances of any major bugs are quite low since the software is usually tested thoroughly prior to final release.

That said, the download link for the update has been given below. The January security patch, which happens to be the latest as of now, has also been bundled with the package.

You are free to install the above through the MIUI Updater app. Keep in mind though that it isn’t exactly guaranteed to result in a successful installation this way. Nonetheless, it is still safe to try.

With this update, the global Redmi Note 9S variant now joins the Android 11 bandwagon which devices like the Mi 10, Mi 10 Pro, and Redmi K30 Pro have already hopped on to.

Also mention-worthy is that the incoming Android 11 update for the Note 9S is still based on MIUI 12. The device is of course eligible for MIUI 12.5 as well and should bag it soon enough. For its status, be sure to check out our MIUI 12.5 update tracker.

If you are one of the testers that actually updated to the build, then worry not for you will still receive OTAs over it.
