New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on November 11, 2020) follows:

The newly released iPhone 12 line of devices represent the latest and greatest that Apple has to offer.

These devices are also pretty expensive so any user that puts in the monetary investment to acquire one of these units has some level of expectation.

It can be very frustrating when the expectations are not adequately met and that is the predicament that a few users of the iPhone 12 Pro are finding themselves in.

According to reports from a section of the new device owners, the iPhone 12 Pro display has an issue where it flickers at brightness levels lower than 90%.

This results in an ugly glow or a bright grey tint across the entire display when displaying blacks. This, despite having an OLED panel that should have deep blacks.

While this issue hasn’t been widely reported, such complaints are coming in fast, and below are just some of the reports from users we came across.

Why are the displays on the iPhone 12 Pro yellow and dingy? With true tone off, mine has a yellow tint compared to previous phones. Blacks turn greenish in dark rooms and appear backlit before they go to full black. Doesn’t seem right for an OLED. #Apple #tmobile

Hello. I bought two iPhone 12 and both has the same issue. In dark surrounding on any brightness lower than 90-100% screen has this ugly glowing! Black pixels are not turning off in dynamic scenes. In static scene black pixels turning off after few seconds.

My video shows it in video and in clock app.

And this is a comparison by another one person who have this problem but with iPhone 12 Pro. iPhone 12 Pro vs iPhone XS screen.

It can be really frustrating to be experiencing such an issue on a new device like this.

Luckily, Apple has been notified about this issue and a user has since shared an alleged feedback from Apple.

According to the user who also shared a video of the iPhone 12 Pro display issue on YouTube, a video that now has over 28,000 views, Apple is working on this issue.

Apple support called me back today and they say that they’re working on this problem and we need to keep software up to date. So let’s hope they’ll fix it with the next update.

For now, though, it is a matter of wait-and-see. However, knowing Apple, this issue will most likely be addressed promptly.

We shall be on hand to update you as and when we get more info on this issue so stay tuned to PiunikaWeb.

Update 1 (November 16)

It is quite possible that the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro display issues are hardware related. Now, there may be no known workaround for display flickering, but there are a couple of things you can try to make the yellowish tint a bit more tolerable.

The first suggestion comes from a user and involves tweaking the settings. Open the Settings and head over to Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Color Filters > Color Tint. You’ll see an option to adjust the hue. Set it to somewhere around 70% or anything that pleases your eye.

Alternatively, you can also try disabling True Tone which will be available under Settings > Display & Brightness > True Tone. Just turn it off if it was on, or the other way around as proposed here.

Update 2 (January 20, 2021)

The fact that the display issues on the Apple iPhone 12 have continued throughout iterative updates like iOS 14.2, 14.3, and even 14.4 have now led many to believe that the matter is in fact hardware-related.

Update 3 (February 17)

Multiple iPhone 12 users on iOS 14.5 beta 2 can confirm that the update has addressed some of their display concerns, more so the green tint issue. It also looks like the display flickering issue is gone.

IT’S FIXED! Finally. B1 fixed flickering in settings and the green tint, but using this test video https://youtu.be/AYtvehF9-Z8 I could see flickering at half brightness while in complete darkness with Night Shift. In B2 I can’t see any flickering at different brightness levels

Since the software is still in beta, we wait for the stable version to confirm if indeed the green tint and display flickering issues are gone.
