New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on December 28, 2020) follows:
Xiaomi is close to winding up the MIUI 12 deployment and is now looking forward to the next big rollout – Android 11.
Xiaomi was also among the first few OEMs to roll out Android 11 alongside Google.
The company has already rolled out Android 11 to a handful of devices including the flagship Mi 10 series, Redmi K30 Pro, and Poco F2 Pro.
The OEM, to everyone’s surprise, pushed stable Android 11 for the Redmi Note 9 Pro in India, which is also known as Redmi Note 9S outside the Indian state. This came as a surprise as no timeline or any early information had suggested this rollout.
Many device owners in India who are still awaiting the arrival of the Android 11 update will have to wait even longer as fresh reports don’t seem to be in their favor.
The Android 11 update turned out to be as rushed as it seemed as according to a Xiaomi forum moderator, the update has been pulled back. The mod says:
Only the Indian version of Redmi Note 9S has received Android 11 so far. That too was rolled back due to bugs, so it’s back to Android 10. It will be released when it’s ready.
Its likely the reason for this rollback is the rushed job by Xiaomi that brought along unspecified bugs. With this, the Redmi Note 9 Pro is back on Android 10 and now awaits a re-release.
The same moderator had earlier suggested that Xiaomi will be focusing on Android 11 as these Note 9 series have already bagged the promised MIUI 12 update.
Xiaomi has a lot of devices under Android 11 internal testing and a significant number of them are undergoing the final phase ahead of the stable rollout.
With more devices in the pipeline, it only becomes a task for Xiaomi devs to not repeat a similar rollback episode and ensure timely deployment.
The OEM needs to put extra effort into the upcoming updates and at the same time, make sure that Redmi Note 9 Pro gets a stable Android 11 update this time.
Multiple brands are competing amongst themselves in the race to Android 11, where out of the top 2 giants in the budget segment, Realme seems to have an edge when it comes to the present Android 11 deployment scenario.
It’d be interesting to follow more such developments in this domain. In the meantime, you can check out our Xiaomi Android 11 update tracker as well for the latest information about your device.
