The fact that the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 continues to pack some punch despite being a relatively older device is undeniable. This can be mostly attributed to the fact that it ships with the highly efficient Snapdragon 665 chipset.
The processor is still more powerful than the ones on newer devices of the same price range. For example, the more recent Redmi Note 9 Power costs just as much as the Note 8 but has an inferior Snapdragon 662 chip built-in.
Of course, that’s a minor step back on Xiaomi’s part but hey, one has to take inflation into consideration too.
That said, the Redmi Note 8 does not come without its share of problems. Most of them are software related though like, battery drain issues, and are nothing that can’t be fixed. Needless to say, they’re still pretty bothersome.
One of such bugs pertains to media playback on Redmi Note 8 wherein the media volume level drops with incoming notifications even while in silent mode. This untoward behavior has reportedly begun following the MIUI 12 update.
Moreover, the volume drop isn’t limited to a single app’s notification as it occurs when literally any high priority notification pops up, regardless of what app it’s from.

It is worth mentioning here that Android by default does reduce volume levels for any kind of media when a notification or call rings. This has been put into place as two different audio streams playing simultaneously can sound aggravating to a user.
However, this behavior obviously should not persist in silent mode as well. After all, that’s what silent mode is for – to prevent interruptions.
The developers were quick enough to note the presence of the bug on the Note though, and it’s already been worked upon as per a recent comment by the Mi forum Feedback Team member.
Dear user,
This is already reported to devs. You may wait for future updates.
Thanks.

As clear from above, the purported fix should roll out in the coming days. For now, there isn’t much that can be done for the media volume drops on the Redmi Note 8 apart from waiting for the update.
