Original story (from January 18, 2021) follows:

In the smartphone industry, it is not uncommon for new updates, especially ones that bring extensive changes to a device, to come with a few bugs and issues.

OnePlus’ latest custom Android skin, OxygenOS 11, has been the center of attention in the OnePlus community for months now.

This, in part, owing to just how different it is from its predecessors, and the bugs and issues afflicting devices running it.

While OnePlus has undoubtedly done a decent job when it comes to ironing out many of these bugs and issues that users of OxygenOS 11 have been facing, more issues continue to crop up.

It is now coming to light that a section of OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8T users are facing a bug with their device’s Gallery app. According to affected users, the Gallery app takes a little too long to load up images.

Hi. A new one plus 8T user here. There is an issue with the gallery app. Whenever I open gallery, it automatically shuts. It loads for a while and then it shuts. I thought I had to update it but it is updated. Any idea why it’s happening?

Various workarounds have been suggested to affected users, some of these being uninstalling updates and reinstalling again, or clearing cache and app data. However, the efficacy of such workarounds is yet to be determined.

A OnePlus community expert also seems to be pushing for one of these workarounds as a stop-gap measure that could yield relief to affected users. In a response to one of these user reports, he says:

try: settings > apps & notifications > see all # apps > gallery > storage > clear cache > reboot

While affected users continue to wait for an official workaround or fix, the same continues to persist for OxygenOS 11-running devices, from the OnePlus 8 (1,2), OnePlus 8 Pro, and the OnePlus 8T (1,2,3).

This, despite recent updates, OxygenOS 11.0.3.3 for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro, and OxygenOS 11.0.6.8 (IN & NA) and 11.0.6.9 EU for the OnePlus 8T, that promised to optimize the Gallery app’s performance.

We shall continue to follow this development and update as and when we get more info or a more viable workaround so you might want to keep an eye out for that.
