It’s been almost 3 weeks since MIUI 12.5 entered beta testing following its announcement a month or so back in China and fans have been eager ever since.

The update acts as an intermediary between the former MIUI 12 and soon to be announced MIUI 13 by bridging the gap between them through the addition of various new features.

Aside from that, Xiaomi claims that the latest iteration is lighter, faster, and more efficient than before.

For the nerds, it uses 20% fewer cores than before with 35% less background memory, and 25% less power consumption.

But these changes are only behind-the-scenes and not the kind that will be too noticeable by anyone. What does stand out though are the re-designed volume panel & power menu.

And if you are one of the users that simply can’t wait for a stable version of MIUI 12.5 to roll out these changes, then there’s some good news.

Even the Mi 11 is yet to receive the MIUI 12.5 update

A Mi forum moderator recently shared an APK that can be installed as an update over the existing “systemui-controls” system app and immediately enable the new MIUI 12.5 volume panel & power menu on MIUI 12 itself.

The new volume controls look less rounded and have done away with the blue accent color in favor of a slightly washed-out white color.

Whether this new UI looks better than before is purely subjective. But there are also a few UX enhancements in store like brand new animations to make the panel more interactive.

After all, who doesn’t love some sleek transitions?
