New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on January 14, 2021) follows:
LG has made some questionable decisions recently with regards to its smartphone business and has thus lost the spotlight to other highly competitive smartphone vendors.
The company tried to switch things around last year with the launch of the LG Wing — its swiveling screen phone — but left much to be desired.
Further, LG’s custom skin over Android has also not been high in rankings amongst users when compared to other in-house skins from OEMs such as Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.
Although, LG has improved its software experience a bit with the Velvet UI skin that was introduced alongside the LG Velvet.
That said, the company is now gearing up to release the Android 11 update for its devices such as the LG V60 ThinQ and LG Velvet.
Matter of fact, LG kick-started the Android 11 beta program for the LG Velvet back in December and is likely close to rolling out the stable update for the device.
Furthermore, we reported that Android 11 was being tested for the LG V60 ThinQ internally. And well, it appears that LG V60 ThinQ users might get the much-awaited update to Android 11 soon.
This is because LG has just released the Android 11 kernel source for the Verizon LG V60 ThinQ 5G (model LMV600VML), first spotted by My LG Phones.
The kernel source is labeled as LMV600VML_Android_R_v20a which ties it to the Verizon LG V60 ThinQ 5G and the software version v20a which is based on Android 11/R.
It’s not unusual for OEMs to release kernel sources before seeding the actual update as was the case for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro Android 11 kernel source code.
Now that LG has released the Android 11 kernel source code for the Verizon LG V60 ThinQ 5G, the stable update can be expected in the following weeks.
However, it may even take a couple of months depending on the situation. As usual, we will post an update once new details regarding the availability of Android 11 for the LG V60 ThinQ surface.
In the meantime, check out our dedicated tracker to know more about the status of Android 11 for all eligible phones from LG.
