[Updated] Realme 7 Pro Android 11 (Realme UI 2.0) update unlikely to add AOD customizations & panoramic light effects due to hardware

Realme has been steadily working to provide Android 11 to all its eligible devices within the promised time frame.

Ever since Android 11’s launch, the company has made sure at least an early access rolls out. Realme X50 Pro, Realme 7 Pro, and Realme Narzo 20 have already tasted the new feature-intensive experience.

Realme UI 2.0, in addition to other changes, also packs a graphic-rich customizable Always-On-Display and Edge lightening. These features, for obvious reasons, are only meant for devices with AMOLED displays.

Realme 7 Pro handsets on the other hand, despite having an AMOLED display, are only restricted to Black and White AOD, primarily to result in better battery life.

The company CEO, in one of the episodes of AskMadhav, urged users to put their views forward if they’d still wish to have these graphic-rich features on their Realme 7 Pro.

But it’s the developers who understand the feasibility and implications better than anyone else. A piece of fresh news has emerged straight from one of the Realme 7 Pro developers, it says:

Q. Still no AOD and edge lighting
Dev: Bro, sorry, due to the realme 7 Pro screen (Ram-less screen), it does not support AOD custom screen style and panoramic light effects, only AOD screen display.

According to the devs, the culprit behind Realme 7 Pro’s inability to have customizable AOD is the hardware/display limitation.

But what does this new term “Ram-less screen” mean? Well, the smartphone industry has shifted to smarter displays that have dedicated RAM to store display data.

Conventional displays rely completely on the host RAM i.e., device RAM. In this type of screen, the display refreshing process goes through the host processor, limiting the screen capabilities to only a few functions.

While most of the display manufacturers have made the jump to smart displays, Realme still prefers to stick to conventional, less capable displays.

After Madhav’s statement, users submitted their feedbacks in the hope of getting these features, but now with the dev’s word on it, the implication of AOD features with Realme UI 2.0 seems less likely.

It’d still be interesting to keep track of the future developments of Realme 7 Pro and see if Realme devs eventually add these features with Realme UI 2.0 (Android 11).

IST 06:38 pm Realme India Support has recently stated that Realme 7 Pro might get the AOD customization and Edge Lighting features in a future OTA. The latest info contradicts what was earlier suggested by the developers of the device in question.

Hi, thank you for sharing your Valuable feedback, unfortunately AOD customization and Edge Lightning is not available right now in realme 7 Pro but this is in consideration and will be added in future OTA. Kindly stay tuned for future updates.

IST 12:30 pm Realme support has once again claimed that the AOD customization feature will be released with a future OTA for Realme 7 Pro. It is now difficult to trust any claims by the support.
