MIUI 12.5 update now lets you disable app icons from Mi Launcher, optimizes casting experience & Mi Cloud home page

Plenty of new features have been included in the new MIUI 12.5 update, which is currently still in beta testing phase back in China.

The firmware was first announced in late December 2020 and has since found its way to more than 25 handsets, but none of them has been upgraded to the stable version.

Between now and April, which is when Xiaomi estimates the stable version will be ready for rollout in China, MIUI 12.5 will undergo multiple improvements and optimizations on a regular basis.

For instance, in the latest couple or so days, the beta program has been blessed with a pair of new MIUI 12.5 update, one adding the ability to disable app icons straight from the Mi Launcher.

This particular version, which rolled out last week, comes as MIUI 12.5 beta 21.1.8. Below is the summarized changelog attached to this build:

As seen above, the changelog mentions the latest January 2021 security patch. Nowhere does it touch on the said app icon changes in the Mi Launcher, but we do have the screenshots to show the change in question.

It’s likely that there are more hidden gems in this MIUI 12.5 beta build, but there is even more stuff in a newer version 21.1.11 that rolled out yesterday.

Although not groundbreaking, the fact that MIUI 12.5 is still in beta means that there is still plenty of improvements and optimizations needed to make the firmware as stable and bug-free as possible.

The latest changes are expected to find their way to the upcoming MIUI 12.5 weekly beta later this week, although no guarantees at this point. Either way, it looks like MIUI 12.5 is going to be an interesting update.
