Original story (published on Jan. 09) follows:

Asus is slated to commence an Android 11 beta program for the gaming-centric ROG Phone 3 soon judging by some new developments on the forums.

Now, the ASUS ROG Phone 3 may arguably still be one of the best gaming phone money can buy, it has a fair share of problems. For example, we highlighted ghost touches and overheating issues in the past.

I also got the red dot and notification and I was able to register to beta program successfully. Hope we will start getting beta updates in a week or so

A few users report that they recently got a notification about a beta testing program for the ROG Phone 3. The same can also be accessed by heading over to Settings > System > System update.

Next, click on the settings icon atop to reveal a new option that says “Enroll in the beta test program”. For a video demonstration, check this out.

However, there is a catch here. It seems that not everyone is able to enroll for the same as a user stated that they did get the notification but upon heading over to the enrollment section, it simply fails to load.

Perhaps, the program is only open to a few users for now and has already reached its maximum capacity. But again, this shouldn’t really be the case as there is no official confirmation from Asus about an Android 11 beta program for the ROG Phone 3 in the first place.

It is worth mentioning here that Asus doesn’t exactly have a clean track record when it comes to software updates. The poor Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1 is yet to receive a stable version of Android 10 after almost a year since beta rolled out.

By this, it is not unsafe to assume that the Android 11 update could go anywhere from here. For now, one can only hope that the OEM won’t repeat the mistakes it made with the Max Pro M1.
