Infinix teases Android 11 update for Infinix Zero 8 & Note 8i, release date to be shared soon

Infinix has through its Kenyan Twitter account hinted at the imminent release of Android 11 update for two of its 2020 handsets — the Infinix Zero 8 and Infinix Note 8i.

Although little known in markets like Europe, Infinix is one of the two biggest smartphone brands in Africa. The other one is Tecno, both owned by China’s Transsion Holdings.

Despite accounting for nearly half of the entire smartphone market share in Africa, Infinix and Tecno smartphones are some of the worst when it comes to software experience, both UI and regular updates.

Sure, some devices do receive security updates for what looks like a quarterly basis, but the story is pretty much the opposite when it comes to major Android OS updates.

For instance, as of this writing, a good number of Infinix and Tecno phones that came powered by Android Pie are yet to bag the update to Android 10.

Still, this hasn’t stopped Infinix from giving us a teaser of the next Android 11 update.

Android 10 is good but what do you think would make the Android 11 update on Infinix phones even better?

The teaser, which was published on Twitter, was followed by a question from a concerned Infinix S4 owner asking to know if and when Android 11 update will be made available for his unit.

In response, Infinix support hinted at the imminent announcement of the release date details of Android 11 update, but it doesn’t look like this had anything to do with the S4 but the Note 8i and Zero 8.

While soon could mean anything from a few days to several months, the fact that Android 11 has been around for a while now should mean these details are likely in the final stages.

It’s also worth mentioning neither Infinix nor Tecno has shared an official list of devices that will be upgraded to Android 11, but we do know the Tecno Pouvoir 4 is eligible having been part of the developer preview program.
