New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on September 4, 2020) follows:
Perhaps one of the most forgettable devices of its era, the Redmi Note 6 Pro came with the ‘most mid-range’, off-the-shelf parts at the time. Launched back in October 2018, this device came with the Snapdragon 636 paired with 3-6GB of RAM and a design we had seen countless times in that period.
The device ran Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box and has since been updated to MIUI 11 on top of Android 9 Pie. The device is in line for an update to MIUI 12 although it remains unclear when exactly this update will be coming.
Back in April, users of the Redmi Note 6 Pro received the heartbreaking news that their devices will not get updated to Android 10 and with that, their only hope for was MIUI 12.
The company has largely remained quiet about the status of MIUI 12 for this device, instead resorting to rolling out regular updates to users, most recently being an optimization update that sought to improve system stability and reduce lag.
Today, thanks to feedback from one Super Moderator on Xiaomi’s Mi Community Forum, we get a little insight as to when users of the Redmi Note 6 Pro will get a MIUI 12 update.
When asked about the possibility of Note 6 Pro bagging the MIUI 12 update by the end of August, a super mod says:
I don’t think so, we have no official information. Maybe it’s the end of September or October, stay and follow the news here.
Not exactly the level of confidence that users were hoping for but since it is all they have, it might be worth holding onto this and looking foward to a possible update later this month.
That said, if you are the adventurous type and you’d like to dip your feet into the MIUI 12 waters, there is an unofficial way to get this on your Redmi Note 6 Pro. More on that ported build here.
We shall continue to keep an eye on this development and update as and when we get more details. You might therefore want to check out our dedicated MIUI 12 tracker for that and much more.
