An alleged timeline for the release of both MIUI 12.5 update and Android 11 update for the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8T has surfaced online.
For those still in the dark, MIUI 12.5 is the latest iteration of Xiaomi’s custom Android skin. Unveiled at the launch event of the MI 11 back at home, MIUI 12.5 becomes the first first MIUI 12 incremental update.
Arriving half a year following the MIUI 12 launch, the half-update tags along a bunch of new features, performance and stability improvements, as well as visual overhauls, details of which can be found here.
It is worth mentioning that not all eligible devices will receive all MIUI 12.5 features. Just like it was the case with MIUI 12, hardware limitations will mean some devices miss out on certain features.
For instance, the new MIUI 12.5 Super Wallpapers will be limited to Mi 11, Mi 10/Pro, Mi 9/Pro and select Mi 8 devices, as seen here. You can check out eligibility of other features/devices here.
So far, MIUI 12.5 beta update is live in China for at least 20 devices, among them the popular Redmi Note 7 and Note 7 Pro. However, the Redmi Note 8, Note 8 Pro and their Redmi Note 8T counterpart are missing from the list.
Heck, the trio is even missing from the preliminary list of eligible devices, something that is causing concern among device owners. On the brighter side, there seem to be some good news.
According to unconfirmed reports, the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8T are eligible for the update to MIUI 12.5. Granted, we should see the same update coming to the Pro variant as well.
The same source further points to a mid-to-late January release date for the Redmi Note 8 MIUI 12.5 beta update followed by a similar update for the Redmi Note 8T somewhere in mid-to-late February 2021.
MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 for Redmi Note 8 will be released in mid-to-late January 2021. For Redmi Note 8T, it’s expected to arrive in mid-to-late February 2021.
Even better is that as part of the MIUI 12.5 beta rollout, the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8T will allegedly bag Android 11 update while at it. But then again, none of this is confirmed.
We already knew of the stories surrounding the possible release of Android 11 update not just for the Redmi Note 8 and Note 8T, but also for the Note 8 Pro variant.
If anything, this only adds more weight to previous rumors, although we still urge our readers to remain skeptical about this development. As usual, we will follow up and let you know when new info surfaces.
