[Update: Released] Motorola Moto G8 Play Android 10 update in final testing phase, says support

The Motorola Moto G8 Play released in October 2019 after Google released Android 10 to the public. However, for some reason, the company sold the Moto G8 Play with Android 9 Pie pre-installed.

Now, more than a year later, Motorola Moto G8 Play users are still in the dark about when they will get receive the update to Android 10.

Bear in mind that most Android vendors have already started seeding the stable Android 11 update for their devices which makes Motorola G8 Play users all the more unfortunate.

This is because Motorola will not be rolling out the Android 11 update for the Motorola Moto G8 Play since the device is scheduled to get only one major Android update which in this case is Android 10.

Towards the tail-end of July, we reported that Motorola Brazil support team claimed that Android 10 is “coming soon” for the Moto G8 Play but didn’t provide a specific date.

Months have passed since then but as you know already, there are still no signs of the update rolling out for the device anywhere.

All hope should not be lost though since the update to Android 10 for the Moto G8 Play is in the “final testing phase”, according to Motorola Brazil Support on Twitter.

This comment was made in response to a user’s query regarding the availability of the update. We’ve shared a screenshot of the exchange on Twitter and a translated version of the company’s support team’s response.

Hello, Joseh. Android software updates are complex projects. Therefore, it may take longer, as several tests are performed before releasing the update. This update is already in the final testing phase on our forum.

Now, we aren’t really sure what to make of this, but considering that the development has reached the final testing phase, we’d expect to see Motorola begin seeding the update in the following weeks.

Furthermore, in another fresh tweet, a user asking about the availability of Android 10 for the device was told to “wait” for the update by the company’s support team on Twitter.

Considering that it’s been over a year of waiting for the update, the company should, at the very least, share the month in which users can expect to get the update.

Nevertheless, Motorola recently also released Android 10 for the Motorola One Macro and it’s likely that Moto G8 Play users will also get the update soon.
