New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on Dec 30, 2020) follows:

Android 11 has been out for a few months now and many OEMs have already managed to roll out their respective Android 11-based custom Android skins to eligible devices.

We have a dedicated Android 11 tracker that’s keeping tabs on all major Android OEMs and the state of their Android 11 rollout. Check it out here.

OnePlus has also been hard at work, trying to deliver its controversial fork of Android 11 — OxygenOS 11 — to eligible devices. So far, the company has managed to roll out stable builds to the OnePlus 8 series.

Other OnePlus devices that are eligible for this update haven’t faired quite as well. This as the company remains mum on the timelines and prospects of this update.

Most recently, we saw reports that suggested that there was a data decryption issue with the Chinese version of this build, HydrogenOS 11 for the OnePlus 7 devices that was causing the bottleneck.

With that, the hopes for an OxygenOS 11 build for the OnePlus 7 series of devices went out the window. While this has since been fixed, users continue to wait for some form of communication from OnePlus with regards to OxygenOS 11.

As the wait continues, speculation remains high and recently, we saw a screenshot purported to be that of the OnePlus 7 Pro running Android 11 surfacing online.

The screenshot that first appeared on the community page of the tech YouTube channel TechBee is said to show the OnePlus 7 Pro with model number GM1910 running what is believed to be a closed Beta build of Android 11-based OxygenOS 11 or HydrogenOS 11. But is it?

Users in the same community forum have cast doubt over the legitimacy of this screenshot, some pointing out that it looks a lot like OnePlus 8 owing to gap at the top left corner of the screenshot, an area that houses the front-facing camera on the OnePlus 8 device.

Could this be a fake screenshot of the OnePlus 7 Pro running OxygenOS 11? Well, it sure looks like it. This, because we haven’t heard anything official from OnePlus, a company that is best known for its level of user engagement.

Also, above is a video of the Xiaomi Poco F1 running OxygenOS 11 ported over from the OnePlus 8 courtesy of the developer community.

While this alone might not prove anything substantial, it goes to show that this can indeed be done and this could be any device running any build of OxygenOS 11.

We would, therefore, advise all OnePlus 7 device owners eagerly awaiting the update to Android 11 to stick to and wait for official communication from OnePlus with regards to any development surrounding OxygenOS 11.

We shall continue to keep an eye on this development and update as and when we get official communication from OnePlus so stay tuned.

In the meantime, here’s everything we know officially with regards to OxygenOS 11 for the OnePlus 7 series of devices.

Update 1 (January 11)

OnePlus has since confirmed that OxygenOS 11 for the OnePlus 7 series of devices is currently in its Closed Beta Program. In line with that, we’ve seen a video surface on YouTube of the OnePlus 7T, allegedly running the said Closed Beta build of OxygenOS 11.
