OnePlus devs working on OnePlus Nord proximity sensor issue (screen stays on when on a call), says staff member

OnePlus Nord is, in many ways, a departure from OnePlus’ current recipe of flagship devices at a fraction of the price of comparably spec-d devices. Side note; it is also the company’s first non-Snapdragon 800-series device.

But the device still offers a lot of value for money and is also set to get a similar treatment with updates as the other OnePlus flagship devices.

All in all, a very solid Android device that won’t break the bank. However, the Nord is not immune to issues that often water down the user experience.

According to a section of OnePlus Nord users, the device has an issue with the proximity sensor that results in the display staying on even when on a call. This leads to accidental keypresses when on a call.

Proximity sensor doesn’t have that much sensitivity, it don’t usually turn off screen while calling and we need to place correctly for proximity sensor recognition.

These reports have been slowly trickling in over the past few months (1,2,3,4,5,6) so it is hard to note when the issue started afflicting said users or if it’s been there since launch.

Luckily, these reports have caught the attention of OnePlus and a staff member, in response to one of these reports, confirms that the development team is working on it.

For the record, the proximity sensor issue is not one that is exclusive to OnePlus devices. A few months ago, we saw Xiaomi struggling to address a similar issue with the Redmi Note 9S. More on that here.
