New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on October 29, 2020) follows:

Like most other mobile carriers, Fido shares its update schedule for the release of new software for all phones that are available through the carrier.

More often than not, these updates carry security patches that are made available by Google in order to keep your Android smartphone safe and secure from cyber-attacks and harmful malware.

FYI, in case you wish to keep an eye on the rollout of security patches, we’ve got you covered since we have now begun keeping tabs on the availability of security patches.

Head here to know whether your device has received the September patch and here too see if the October patch is live for your device.

But of course, updates aren’t limited to security patches since smartphone vendors release bug fixes, optimizations, and other improvements as well including Android OS updates.

Speaking of Android OS updates, you can check out all the Android 11 eligible devices sold by Fido by heading here.

Fido has now updated its OS upgrade schedule to include details of upcoming updates for several devices in this month. Therefore, you can check whether your device will receive an update or not.

For starters, all the Google Pixel smartphones available via Fido will be getting the November security update on November 2.

So the Google Pixel 5, Google Pixel 4a, Google Pixel 4 XL, Google Pixel 4, Google Pixel 3a XL, Google Pixel 3a, Google Pixel 3 XL, and the Google Pixel 3 will bag the latest security patch first.

Well, that’s not surprising considering Google Pixel phones are always one of the first Android smartphones to get the latest security patches.

The next day, i.e., November 3, Fido will be rolling out the October security patch for a handful of Samsung smartphones.

These are the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra 5G, Samsung Galaxy Note 20 5G, Samsung Galaxy Note 9, Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra, Samsung Galaxy S20+, and the Samsung Galaxy S20.

According to Fido, the Note 20 series and the Galaxy Note 9 will be getting a few other improvements or features besides the October patch.

The Huawei Mate 20 Pro is also scheduled to get the September security patch starting on November 4. After that, the LG Velvet 5G is expected to get a new software update on November 11.

As per Fido’s plans, this update will bring “Additional 5G support” for the device. It isn’t clear what this means for the end-user, however, we do expect that it would improve the 5G capabilities of the device.

That said, Fido is yet to kick-start its own 5G network in Canada. At present, 5G connectivity is only offered by Rogers, Bell, and TELUS in the country.

And according to information shared here, it seems that Fido will roll out its 5G network some time in 2021.

Nonetheless, these are the phones from Fido that are set to get software updates this month, i.e. November. As always, we will post an update if and when Fido adds a new device to the list.
