The 3.5mm headphone jack on smartphones is a dying breed and we can all choose to blame Apple for that. However, this shift has brought with it many benefits, including the birth of the wireless earphones era.

Many new devices come without this once ubiquitous port, much to the dismay of audiophiles but for the die-hards, dongle-life is also a thing.

There are adapters in the market, some that even ship with new devices, that allow users to connect their 3.5mm headphones to their smartphones via the USB-C port.

Recently, OnePlus rolled out an update to the OnePlus 7 series of devices. The OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro’s build came with software version 10.3.7 in India and global units or version 10.0.10 in Europe. More on that here.

The OnePlus 7T got updated to version 10.0.15 for the Global and EU and 10.3.7 in India. More on that here. The OnePlus 7T Pro got updated to OxygenOS 10.0.13 in Europe and globally while Indian users got the update to OxygenOS 10.3.7. More on that here.

This update brought the November security patch and optimized the user experience along with a few bug fixes according to the changelogs.

However, this build might have broken yet another feature for the OnePlus 7 devices, compatibility with USB-C to 3.5mm adapters. In the week following the rollout, the community forums have been awash with complaints from many affected users (1,2,3,4,5,6).

After 10.0.10 update in my OnePlus 7 pro, the type-c to type-c 3.5mm adapter has stopped functioning. Prior to update I was able to use both (charger and earphone) at the same time but now after the update only one works at a time. I bought this phone basically for gaming but this update is ruining everything. Is anyone here aware of this issue? And is there any plans on fixing this issue by OnePlus?

At the time of writing, it is still unclear what about this update caused this issue and OnePlus was yet to acknowledge the bug or issue a workaround.

Stay tuned as we will continue to follow this and update as soon as we get word about a fix or a workaround to keep affected users going until this can be properly addressed.
