Finally, folks in India can install the stable MIUI 12 update on their Redmi Note 8 handsets.
Xiaomi has been working on the Redmi Note 8 MIUI 12 update for months, with the device having been among the first to bag the beta version back at home.
The Chinese variant further went on to bag the stable update weeks ago, leaving those on the global variants asking questions about MIUI 12 availability.
Answers started showing up now long ago, beginning with the global (MI) variant. However, some Redmi Note 8 users immediately started reporting issues with downloading the OTA update.
The issue was, for some reason, affecting those on the previous MIUI 11.0.11.0 version – something that Xiaomi has gone ahead to acknowledge as a bug, promising to fix it asap.
As those on the global ROM wait for a patched-up version, the Indian Redmi Note 8 variant has now started receiving the beta stable MIUI 12 update. The update arrives as MIUI 12.0.1.0.QCOINXM.
For some reason, though, the changelog provided does not reflect what the update in question brings, as seen below:
System
– Updated Android Security Patch to October 2020. Increased system security.
The global variant bagged the update to MIUI 12 along with September security patch.
The fact that the Indian variant has a newer security patch could suggest any instances of the issues in the global variant may have been addressed.
That said, the rollout is ongoing over the air. And it is typical with OTA updates, you may have to wait for several days or even weeks before the download notification shows up on your handset.
You can either wait or opt to download the file below for manual installation. In the event of any errors during installation, feel free to consult this post for possible solutions.
