New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on November 06, 2020) follows:

OxygenOS is the custom Android skin found on all OnePlus smartphones, among them the latest OnePlus 8T, OnePlus Nord N10 5G and OnePlus Nord N100.

The skin earned its fan base thanks to the focus on stock-like looks and feel, but things took a different direction with the arrival of the latest OxygenOS 11 edition that is based on Android 11.

Still, not much has changed when it comes to the tons of useful features the skin packs in. OxygenOS 11 is still getting fast updates and the focus on supporting older devices is still on.

Make no mistake, though, for all is not rosy in the OxygenOS 11 camp, at least for the few OnePlus users already enjoying the new Android 11-based skin.

For the uninitiated, the OnePlus 8T has the new skin out of the box while the standard 8 and 8 Pro are on OxygenOS 11 courtesy of a software update.

Looking at the many reports in the OnePlus community forum, though, looks like the Parallel Apps feature no longer works as expected following the update to OxygenOS 11.

We have reports from affected OnePlus 8, OnePlus 8 Pro and even OnePlus 8T users in the community forums, something that implies this Parallel Apps issue is likely limited to OxygenOS 11.

In case you missed it, OnePlus Parallel Apps arrived in 2017, allowing OxygenOS users to create a clone app for supported apps such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Instagram, and so on.

I am on stable Android OO11 updated through OTA. When work profile is configured, Parallel Apps doesnt work, it throws an ‘Initiatization error’. Tried Parallel Apps by removing work profile and it worked fine. Please see attached screenshot.

I made a clean install of oxygenos 11 and now when I try to setup parallel apps I get an initialization error. I have work profile enabled.

Going by the comments above and several others made in the OnePlus community forum, there does seem to be a common thing among those affected.

Apparently, the issue seemingly affects those using the Work Profile, something a company staff member has weighed in on the community forums.

Several users have reported this issue when they have a work profile set up. I would advise you to submit a bug report by using the Community app’s Feedback feature.

As it stands, whenever one tries setting up Parallel Apps, they get greeted by the “Initialization failed” error, as seen in the screengrab below.

While it is clear the update to OxygenOS 11 is the culprit, what exactly triggers this bug remains unknown. On the brighter side, a community expert has confirmed that OnePlus is already working to fix it.

Granted, affected OnePlus users can expect a fix for the Parallel Apps issue to arrive in a future OxygenOS 11 update. As for the timing, only OnePlus has the monopoly on this matter, so we wait.

We’ve made a note of it and our DEV team is currently working on this. We’ll keep you posted regarding any further updates.
