New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on October 15, 2020) follows:
Xiaomi Redmi 9 has received the MIUI 12 update in China but the wait for the global variants is still on.
The Redmi 9 is known as Xiaomi Redmi 9 Prime in India which is also slated to get the latest custom skin update.
Now, it seems that the MIUI 12 update might have already arrived for the Redmi 9 Prime in India, albeit for select users.
As per a Mi Community feedback team member, a limited number of Redmi 9 Prime users have already bagged the latest custom UI.
Also, the global variants will start receiving the same once the developers are satisfied with its quality.
Please note that MIUI 12 for Redmi 9 is already rolled out to all users of China ROM and limited users of India ROM, for other roms including Global ROM, it will release once it is ready by devs.
However, there have been no user reports about the Redmi 9 Prime getting the latest MIUI iteration which further indicates the possibility of a limited rollout.
It was reported earlier that the Redmi 9 Prime will start receiving the latest custom skin update from October 15, i.e., today. But there is no official announcement confirming the same yet.
This new information about the Redmi 9 Prime indicates that all remaining Xiaomi devices might indeed get the MIUI 12 update by October-end.
Nevertheless, the OEM is still working on the development of MIUI 12 beta updates which was temporarily suspended in China.
While it is unclear whether or not Xiaomi will provide MIUI 12 to all eligible devices by month-end, current reports clearly suggest that the OEM intends to stick to that plan.
That said, we will keep tracking the development of MIUI 12 and will provide updates once more information becomes available.
In the meantime, you can check out our MIUI 12 update tracker to get the latest updates on the topic.
