Xiaomi was one of the first OEMs to roll out the Android 11 beta update for its devices soon after Google announced it, sans its MIUI 12 skin. The update was first available to Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro users in China.

Then in July, the company made the beta available for the Redmi K30 Pro which is sold as the Poco F2 Pro in global markets.

And in the following month, Xiaomi released the Android 11 beta for the Mi CC9 Pro. Not much later, the Global variants of the Mi 10 series and Poco F2 Pro also bagged the beta update.

Since then, we have seen a number of beta updates being released, and eventually, Xiaomi rolled out the stable Android 11 update for the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro as well as the Redmi K30/Poco F2 Pro at the start of this month.

The update is currently only available to a limited number of users in China and those with the Global units. Therefore, we may have to wait a while longer before Xiaomi rolls out Android 11 publicly in other regions.

That said, the new Android 11 update is available with the company’s MIUI 12 skin on top. And speaking of MIUI 12, the company has released the beta version 20.10.12.

This time around, there are some exciting new features that tag along. For starters, the MIUI 12 beta brings support for the Tap Back gestures for devices running on Android 11 such as the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro.

The Back Tap gestures were first introduced by Apple via the iOS 14 update and later Google brought the cool gestures to its Pixel smartphones with the update to Android 11.

In order to use the Back Tap gestures, you will have to go to Settings > More Settings > Quick Gestures > Tap Back. Select the option/function you wish to trigger by tapping the back of your phone.

The other new features that come with the 20.10.12 beta update include new VLOG mode templates — “Story” and “Rhythm”. The changelog also mentions the addition of a draft box function to VLOG mode. Thus, you can save the current progress and continue with it later.

Additionally, the VLOG mode feature is now linked to the cloud which will allow Xiaomi to push new templates without having to roll out a new software update.

For reference, we’ve added the complete changelog for the new beta update below:
