MIUI 12 update for Xiaomi Redmi 9 (Global, India, etc.) scheduled for October 20, Android 11 in February 2021

Xiaomi Redmi 9 came out in June with Android 10-based MIUI 11 out-of-the-box. The device is clearly a candidate for Android 11 but it is still in line for the latest custom skin i.e. MIUI 12.

It was recently reported that the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi 9 will start rolling out from October 20 along with the Redmi Note 9S and Redmi Note 9 Pro (global).

Now, the same has been reconfirmed by the Xiaomi UK support executive along with some insight on the Redmi 9 Android 11 update.

Also, this info is in sync with the earlier reports of all remaining Xiaomi devices getting MIUI 12 by October-end. More on that here.

The support representative has clearly stated that the Redmi 9 MIUI 12 update will start rolling out to the global, Indian, European, Russian, etc. units in October 2020.

Such information from support executives cannot be considered as credible and should be taken with a pinch of salt.

However, this time it might be different as the representative has assured that the rollout will commence from the said date.

So, we hope that the OEM starts rolling out the MIUI 12 update for the Redmi 9 as users have been waiting for it for quite some time.

Apart from that, the user went on to enquire about the Android 11 update for the Redmi 9 which was promptly addressed by the Xiaomi support executive.

The executive stated that the latest OS update for Xiaomi Redmi 9 will start rolling out in February 2021.

Since there is no official information corroborating this, it would be wise to tame your hopes as one can never be sure about the release dates of software updates.
