[Update: Fixed] Latest OnePlus 7/Pro (OxygenOS 10.3.5) update reportedly broke OnePlus Messages app for some users

OnePlus is still working on fine-tuning its Android 10 update as devices like OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro are receiving an OxygenOS 10-based incremental update.

The update version OxygenOS 10.3.5 is already out for OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 6T and now the OnePlus 7 series is also getting the same.

However, users are reporting that they are facing crashing issue with the OnePlus Messages app after updating their OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro with the OxygenOS 10.3.5 update.

Many users are taking to online platforms like OnePlus Community and Twitter stating that the Messages app keeps on crashing after the latest update.

Also, some users have stated that they are not getting any notifications for new messages and have to open the OnePlus Messages app to access the same.

These issues are also preventing users from sending messages from their OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro units as the app keeps on crashing as soon as it is launched.

There has been no acknowledgement from OnePlus on the matter yet while users are demanding a fix for this nuisance.

Even though there are a bunch of instant messaging apps available for Android devices, the stock Messages app is still highly used.

Moreover, it is unclear what is causing these issues but reports started coming only after the OxygenOS 10.3.5 update arrived for the OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro.

Nevertheless, we hope OnePlus soon addresses these issues on a wider scale while also providing resolution for the same.

Apart from that, OnePlus is also working on the OxygenOS 11 (Android 11) update but there is still no news on when the stable version will start rolling out.

A OnePlus Staff Member has suggested OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro as well as OnePlus 7T and 7T Pro users to download and install the latest OnePlus Messages (Early Access) app via the Play Store to check whether the issue still presists.

In its latest OxygenOS FAQ, OnePlus has claimed that a fix is in the works for the messaging application bug which causes the application to crash on Android 11 (OxygenOS 11). More details here.

OnePlus is rolling out new updates for the OnePlus 7T series. Apparently, the update version 10.3.6 (India)/10.0.14 (Europe) for the OnePlus 7T and version 10.3.6 (India)/10.0.12 (Global, Europe) for the OnePlus 7T Pro has fixed the “unstable issue with Messages in special cases”.

Apart from the fix for the Messaging issue, the update also brings a few other fixes. It’s worth pointing out that due to the lack of evidence, we cannot say whether this update does indeed fix problem. We’ve added the common changelog below:

The new update is now rolling out for the OnePlus 7 and OnePlus 7 Pro as well, bringing with it exactly the same changelog (listed above) as the update for the OnePlus 7T series.
