Xiaomi’s sub-brand, Poco, has some fine devices in its catalog. Among them, the flagship-killer known as Pocophone F1.

However, all Poco devices currently run on Xiaomi’s in-house custom skin i.e. MIUI and now it seems that is not going to change for the time being.

Country Director at Poco India, Anuj Sharma, has recently shed some light on Poco’s strategy in an interview with The Indian Express.

As per the publication’s report, the supposedly independent OEM is not going to switch to a custom platform of its own which is currently being dubbed as Poco UI.

While it is unclear whether the OEM will make a platform switch in the future, the development of Poco UI might still continue internally.

Poco will continue to follow the same strategy in the future. It will continue to use MIUI software from Xiaomi on its phones and has no plans to build a software platform of its own anytime soon.

The Country Director also suggested that since Poco is a relatively new brand, it is developing its devices as rebranded versions of Xiaomi devices.

It is a known fact that the Poco M2 Pro is also known as Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro while the Redmi 9C was recently released as Poco C3 in India.

Xiaomi is still struggling to deliver the latest software updates to Poco devices but developing an in-house custom skin does not guarantee timely updates as well.

Hence, it is only natural for young brands like Poco to be dependent on other OEMs when it comes to software support.

Anuj Sharma also mentioned that a true successor to Pocophone F1, which is known as Poco F1 in India, in being developed but it will still take some time.

It must be noted that the Poco F2 Pro is already available in the global market but the Country Director has specifically stated that it is not a true successor to the Poco F1, hence, not coming in India.

The Poco F1 was a device that changed the market and consumers expect the same from the successor. The Poco F2 Pro isn’t that device. We are working to bring a true successor to the Poco F1 but it will take time for us to develop it.

That said, Poco users will have to stick with Xiaomi’s MIUI which seems to be in sync with what users might actually want.

In the meantime, you can check out our MIUI 12 update tracker as several Poco devices are yet to bag the latest custom skin from Xiaomi.
