[Updated] MIUI 12 Super Wallpapers: Xiaomi devices that are officially supported

Xiaomi announced the global MIUI 12 nearly a month ago and so far, the software is available for select devices on the global, European, and Indian ROMs.

To be more specific, MIUI 12 is now available for owners of the Mi 9, Mi 9T, Mi 9T Pro, Redmi K20, and Redmi K20 Pro. The company has also started recruiting beta testers using the Poco F1, as well as Redmi Note 8 Pro, and Redmi Note 7/7S/7 Pro.

The firmware is still limited to select users as Xiaomi works out the few MIUI 12 bugs in the early builds ahead of the wider rollout. As usual, Xiaomi has included plenty of new and interesting features, but not everyone will get all the goodies that come with the new UX.

Matter of fact, plenty of Mi and Redmi owners are set to miss out on one of the best features of MIUI 12. Dubbed Super Wallpapers, they bring space-like backgrounds to match the UX screen of the device you are viewing it on at various zoom levels.

MIUI 12 Super Wallpapers show Earth or Mars on your device’s lockscreen and when you reach for the home screen they transition to a close-up view of the planet in question.

Unfortunately, this feature is only coming to a handful of Xiaomi and Redmi phones. This is despite the fact that the MIUI 12 update is coming to dozens of Xiaomi devices.

According to Xiaomi, the Super Wallpapers will only be available for owners of the following devices:

1. Xiaomi Mi 10
2. Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro
3. Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite
4. Xiaomi Mi 9
5. Xiaomi Mi 9T Pro
6. Xiaomi Mi 8
7. Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro
8. Xiaomi Mi MIX 3
9. Redmi K20 Pro
10. POCO F2 Pro

As for the rest of Xiaomi and Redmi devices that get updated to MIUI 12, only Static wallpapers will be available. On the brighter side, a working port that brings these Super Wallpapers to unsupported devices is already available.

IST 04:00 pm: Its now coming to light that one of the most appreciated features of the MIUI 12, the Super Wallpapers, are limited to the Snapdragon 8xx SoC devices. You can read the complete coverage here.

IST 04:19 pm: In a new Q&A session on the Mi forum, Xiaomi engineers have coughed up some more details on why the MIUI 12 Super Wallpapers aren’t available for all devices. Apart from the high-end specifications, even the display type plays a key role since Super Wallpapers are suitable for OLED screens. Full comment here.
