OxygenOS 11 (Android 11) Open Beta 1 update broke Google Assistant launch gesture (swipe from corner) on OnePlus 8 series

OnePlus was one of the first OEMs to release the Android 11 beta soon after Google released it for its Pixel devices. OnePlus then went on to release the second, third, and even a fourth closed beta build of Android 11.

Furthermore, the company has even kick-started the OxygenOS 11 Open Beta program which first went live for the Chinese varints for the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro alongside HydrogenOS 11.

As expected, the update brings a bunch of new features along with a major UI overhaul. Some new features include the highly requested Always on Display function, a one-handed mode, and new live wallpapers.

We also reported that the stable OxygenOS 11 update based on Android 11 will bring back the front camera ring light feature. That said, the current OxygenOS 11 update does come with a few bugs and issues that need to be ironed out.

Many users have been reporting that after they installed the update on their devices, the ‘Swipe from corner’ gesture used to launch the Google Assistant no longer works on the OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 Pro. We’ve added some user reports (1, 2, 3, 4) below:

As you can see, the issue seems to be affecting multiple individuals who have installed the OxygenOS 11 Open Beta 1 update on their devices.

Fortunately, in response to a user’s complaint regarding the issue, a OnePlus staff member on the company’s community forum has stated that the issue has been acknowledged and the developer team is working on it.

We have made a note of this and our developer team is currently working on this. We will keep you posted regarding the further updates. We appreciate your support and patience in this regard.

While the mod has not provided an ETA for the fix, we expect that OnePlus may patch the bug with the next Open Beta update which should be released soon. That said, we will continue tracking the situation and will post an update once more details emerge.
