This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (from September 10) follows:
Android 11 is officially out for a number of devices from Google’s own Pixel line and select OnePlus, Xiaomi, Oppo and Realme phones. From here on, focus now shifts to Android phone makers and their respective plans to roll out this version of Android to their eligible devices.
Already, we have seen enhanced development from a number of companies from Samsung, OnePlus among many others who are reportedly testing their custom skins on top of Android 11.
One such company is Asus. The company has already kickstarted the development of Android 11 for a number of its devices and you might want to check out our Asus Android 11 tracker for more on that.
Not too long ago, we saw Asus commencing recruitment for Asus 6z (ZenFone 6) users who were interested in taking part in the company’s Android 11 Beta testing program. Exciting news as this means that Asus is already working on this upcoming update.
Later on, we got word from a ZenTalk Forum moderator that this upcoming update would not affect the device’s VoLTE capabilities, a reassuring confirmation to users who heavily depend on this feature.
So what features will be coming to this device with the update to Android 11? Well, seeing as the device is not as capable as its successor, ZenFone 7, it is only logical to expect some of the features to be trimmed out in the Android 11 build for Asus ZenFone 6.
Well, according to a forum moderator, that is exactly what will happen. When asked by a user which feature-set to expect in the upcoming Android 11 update, the Forum moderator says:
ZenFone 6 won’t get ALL of the features that can be found in ZenFone 7 but you will get SOME of them in the Android R update. Unfortunately, I can’t disclose which ones at this point
The moderator declines to confirm what these features that won’t make it to the ZenFone 6 Android 11 update are. However, seeing as Android 11 has only recently been made official, it is probably too soon for that.
All in all, it is refreshing to see all these manufacturers already working on Android 11 for their eligible devices. Could this mean that we will see Android 11 rolled out to eligible devices sooner than we saw Android 10 being rolled out? We can only wait and see.
Update 1 (Sept. 12)
A Zentalk moderator has now confirmed that the ZenFone 6 (Asus 6Z) Android 11 update won’t bring bouncy UI effects, force HDR+ feature or change the camera features. Head here for more details.
Update 2 (Sept. 23)
In response to a user’s query regarding the availability of Android 11 for the ZenFone 6 (6z), a moderator claimed that Android 11 is currently being tested via a closed beta program and the stable update is expected to arrive in Q4 of this year. More details here.
