Android is a mature platform at this point, having evolved slowly over the past decade or so. However, even with all the refinement that has gone into it, there are a few glaring issues that are often passed on to custom Android skins from other OEMs.
Case in point, when your Android is locked, one would expect the quick settings to be unavailable. That way, should you lose your device, no one is able to mess around with the device by toggling any of your quick-settings. On stock Android, this is not the case as the quick-toggles are readily available, even when the device is locked.
Well, the same has been passed over to Xiaomi’s current skin on top of Android, MIUI 12. On MIUI 12, the Control Center is accessible, even when the device is locked.
Understandably, this doesn’t sit well with many users. According to MIUI 12 users, they’d prefer that the device’s Control Center be unavailable when the device is locked to prevent unauthorized access to the said parameters.
In response to a user-query, Xiaomi confirms that the company is aware of this user-request and as such, it is planning to roll out this feature to more regions as it is already in testing on the Chinese ROM.
This move, perhaps part of the program where Xiaomi invited users of the company’s skin, MIUI, to vote for features that they would like to see added to the custom Android skin.
Xiaomi’s Control Center offers users so much more functionality. Recently, we looked at how to enable a frame-rate counter on the Control Center among many other features.
However, the Control Center has not been without issues. A section of MIUI 12 users have been facing an issue where invoking the Control Center would not blur the background, leading to weird overlays. This issue is set to be addressed soon.
The company has also been hard at work, rolling out MIUI 12 to eligible devices and you can check out our dedicated tracker for more on that. At the time of writing, the company had just finished with the second batch of MIUI 12 rollout.
Xiaomi is quickly shaping up to be one of the most consumer-facing brands we have today owing to the amount of engagement on the company’s Mi Community Forum between users and the Forum moderators. We can only hope to see the same from more OEMs.
