Original story (published on May 1, 2020) follows:
Xiaomi’s MIUI skin is one of the oldest in the Android ecosystem. It also happens to be one of the most refined and wholesome Android experiences you can get today. True, it is kinda inspired by Apple’s iOS but it remains a solid experience.
The latest iteration of MIUI, MIUI 12 is still in development and we have heard really nice things about it. We’ve seen the same being ported to the Poco F1 and the official schedule for the official rollout to Xiaomi Mi 10, Mi 9, Redmi K30 & Redmi K20 series
Well, after the Poco F1, MIUI 12 has apparently been spotted running on the Mi Mix 2. This is impressive especially bearing in mind that the Mi Mix 2 is about three years at this point, having been launched back in 2017. This device is powered by the Snapdragon 835.
The Mi Mix 2 made it to the list of Xiaomi devices expected to get updated to the MIUI 12 skin once it drops. That said, could this be the official rollout of MIUI 12 Beta to this device?
Nonetheless, it is impressive that Xiaomi saw it fit to roll out MIUI 12 on a device as old as the Mi Mix 2. This only goes to show that despite everything, older flagships still have a lot of potential and capabilities.
If Xiaomi plans to update this aging flagship, imagine what developers can do when they build custom ROMs for these devices. I for one am impressed and am looking forward to the final build of MIUI 12 ported to the Mi Mix 2 and a bunch of other older Xiaomi devices. As proof of concept, this is incredible.
