We have seen Android 11 grow into its very advanced stages and if everything goes as planned, we should see an official release within this Q3 2020.
Even as that happens, other OEMs are jumping the gun and have started works on their various skinned versions of Android 11. We have seen Xiaomi, Oppo, OnePlus, just to mention a few.
See, Xiaomi is a global brand and therefore, sells its devices across various regions and continents. Traditionally, Xiaomi has been able to roll out updates, both major and minor ones, to the Chinese variants of devices before the global or other regional variants of the same.
Case in point, here is a list of the first Xiaomi devices to bag an update to Android 10.
That is a lot of China at the very top of this list. This has meant that devices that don’t have a Chinese equivalent have lagged behind their counterparts by months in some cases. Case in point, Redmi Note 9 Pro Max, Redmi Note 9 Pro, Redmi Note 9S, and the Redmi Note 8T haven’t received MIUI 12 updates.
Well, this might be changing soon. This, because apparently, Xiaomi is planning to take a non-China-first approach in the rollout of Android 11.
When asked by a user on the Mi Community Forum why Xiaomi hasn’t rolled out MIUI 12 to Redmi Note 9 Pro users, the moderator says:
Not really. Redmi 10X 4G received MIUI 12 earlier, so the devs could easily port the ROM to Note 9, which is basically the same device. As for other devices, it has to be built from the ground up, and hence the delay. This may not be the case with Android 11, as it doesn’t necessarily come to China ROM first. That being said, China ROM will always be ahead of other ROM variants, may it be Global or EEA or any other regional ROMs.
The updates will come. Kindly wait.
Cheers! π

With that, chances are that Xiaomi will roll out Android 11 other regions first, not China. It will be interesting to see how fast Xiaomi will be able to roll out MIUI 12 to its eligible devices.
