[Updated] Samsung One UI 2.5 supports Android 10 full-screen gestures in 3rd party launchers

Android 10 brought many improvements but one feature that the OS is known for is the full-screen navigation gestures support. However, OEMs like Samsung provide their in-house navigation gestures along with Android 10 gestures.

While Samsung’s navigation gestures work with third-party launchers, the story is a bit different with Android 10 gestures. Many users started reporting that after the Android 10-based One UI 2.0 update, they were unable to use the Android 10 gestures with third-party launchers.

This is because Google had not added support for Android 10 gestures to work with third-party launchers back then, but it has since been enabled in AOSP. As a result, Samsung has also been working on fixing this issue with the One UI 2.5 update since March.

Now, a video posted on the sakitech channel on YouTube shows that the Android 10 gestures are indeed working with third-party launchers on a Samsung device running One UI 2.5. However, there still appears to be some fine-tuning left. Check out the full video below.

It must be noted that the devices running One UI 2.0 and One UI 2.1 might be eligible to receive the One UI 2.5 update as it is also based on Android 10. However, the OEM has not made any official announcements regarding the same yet.

One UI 2.5 is currently available only for the Galaxy Note 20 series and Galaxy Z Flip 5G variant. Also, the One UI 2.5 update is being tested on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10, Galaxy Tab S5e, and Galaxy S10.

While it is unclear when the OEM will initiate the One UI 2.5 update rollout, the support for Android 10 gestures on third party launchers is indeed being worked upon as promised by Samsung.

It seems that Samsung is close to release the Android 10-based One UI 2.5 update for the Galaxy Note 10 series and the Galaxy S10 series since new test builds have surfaced. The test firmware comes with the build number DTH4. Head here for more details.

IST: 05:05 pm: While the Android 10-based One UI 2.5 rollout is already live for the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S10 series, a user has recently reported an issue that he came across using Android 10 gestures with third party launchers.

The issues include side-swiping to open other apps doesn’t work, swiping up to the multitasking screen will trigger the launcher gesture and the app drawer will show behind the screen, and other gestures just appear on screen and don’t gently fade in like on One UI home.
