[Updated] As Android 11 nears, these Xiaomi devices still eyeing Android 10 update: Redmi Note 8/8T, Redmi 8A Dual, 7, & more

Xiaomi, along with a few other OEMs released the Android 11 beta update for its flagships — the Mi 10 and the Mi 10 Pro — more than a month ago. It then released it for the Redmi K30 Pro aka the Poco F2 Pro.

And recently, Xiaomi also rolled out the Android 11 beta (AOSP) ROM for the Mi CC9 Pro in China. While all this is good news in its self, there’s a whole other story regarding the Android 10 update for Xiaomi phones.

Xiaomi seems to release a new smartphone every other month and this is the very reason why the company appears to be struggling with providing software updates. With Android 11 around the corner, a few Xiaomi phones are yet to bag Android 10.

Of course, things are a bit different with Xiaomi since it decouples its MIUI skin upgrades from Android version updates. Thus, MIUI updates are often way more interesting than standard Android updates on Xiaomi phones.

Nevertheless, running on the latest Android version also has its own perks. But like we mentioned above, the company is yet to release the update to Android 10 for the Redmi Note 8/8T, Redmi 8A Dual, Redmi 8A Pro, Redmi 7, Redmi Y3, and Mi MIX 3 5G.

A few months ago, we reported that Xiaomi is testing Android 10 on the Redmi Note 8 but the Chinese OEM still has not released a stable update for the device. Further, the Redmi Note 8T has also not got Android 10 yet.

As for the Redmi 8A Dual, the update to Android 10 was confirmed but no ETA was provided. On the other hand, there’s almost no information surrounding the release for Android 10 on the Redmi 8A Pro.

The update did roll out for the Redmi 7, however, it’s only available in China at the moment. Thus, Redmi 7 users elsewhere have to continue waiting for Xiaomi to begin rolling out Android 10 for the device.

Coming to the Redmi Y3, it too has only received Android 10 in China. And there’s no word on when we can expect it to bag the update elsewhere. As for the Mi MIX 5G, there appears to be a slight chance that it may not get Android 10 at all.

It’s now going to be more than a year since Google released Android 10. Thus, it’s a shame to see OEMs such as Xiaomi still struggling to release the now-dated Android version update for some of their devices.

What’s even more disappointing is the fact that Xiaomi releases only 1 major OS update for most phones under the Redmi branding. Therefore, it seems Xiaomi isn’t able to provide 1 OS update on time.

Of course, we will continue tracking the rollout for Android 10 on Xiaomi phones. So make sure to keep an eye out on our dedicated tracker to know when the Android 10 update rolls out for your device.

Needless to say, none of the devices mentioned here are eligible for the update to Android 11, apart from the Mi MIX 3 5G. However, since it may not even get Android 10, we doubt Xiaomi will ever release Android 11 for the device.
