Xiaomi introduced the Always on Display function with the release of MIUI 10 and it has picked up a few new tweaks in MIUI 12. The AOD feature has been a staple on Samsung phones for a long time although it was first implemented by Nokia several years ago.
Like the name suggests, the Always on Display — or AOD in short — displays information on the screen at all times. However, more recent implementations of it allow users to set a certain time duration for the information to be displayed.
This helps save battery life as well as helps prevent screen burn-ins on AMOLED displays. At present, Xiaomi’s AOD function with its MIUI skin allows users to schedule the Always on Display to be active between a certain time.
But with MIUI 12 it appears the Always on Display has got a new option. Apparently, users can now select to display AOD items ‘For 10 seconds after tapping’. What this means is that the AOD screen will show for only 10 seconds after users tap on the screen.
Unfortunately, the feature isn’t available on all devices running Xiaomi’s latest skin. And a curious user took to the Mi forums to know why the For 10 seconds after tapping feature isn’t available on their device.
In response to the user’s query, a Mi Community moderator claimed that the new Always on Display setting is only available in the China Beta for MIUI 12. Thus, users on the Global ROM will not find the option in the AOD settings.
Further, the moderator also mentioned that the feature may be available with upcoming MIUI 12 updates for the Global ROM. However, this isn’t an option that is available on MIUI 11.
Thus, interested individuals may have to wait until Xiaomi decides to bring the option to the Global channel as well. But the lack of information means that we do not have an ETA to share. As usual, we will continue tracking the situation and will post an update once new details emerge.
