This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (published on August 21, 2020) follows:
MIUI 12 is all the rage right now in the Xiaomi community. And for good reason. This new skin on top of Android brings one of the most exciting, radical UI changes we have seen from any Android OEM in a while.
Since the official unveiling a few months ago, Xiaomi has been able to roll out this custom Android skin to a good number of its devices. We have a tracker dedicated to keeping track of this rollout and you can check it out for a more detailed look at the current state of MIUI 12.
Even as that happens, a good number of devices from Xiaomi that are eligible for the update are yet to bag this much-anticipated build of MIUI 12. One such device is the Redmi Note 9S, sold in India as the Redmi Note 9 Pro. Today, users of this device are being treated to an update.
This update which bears software version number 11.0.11.0.QJWMIXM, up from version 11.0.10.0.QJWMIXM, is rolling out as an OTA weighing in at 244MB. This update brings with it the August 2020 security patch and much to the dismay of eager Redmi Note 9S/Note 9 Pro users, it is still based on MIUI 11.
Other than the said bump in the Android Security Patch level, this update is as barebones as they come, as demonstrated by the following changelog.
System
Updated Android Security Patch to August 2020. Increased system security.
As mentioned, this update is going out to eligible users as an OTA and you might want to wait for your device to receive the update. However, should you want to manually install this build on your Redmi Note 9S, below is the download link.

Important to note is that this update is going out to the Redmi Note 9S which is sold in India as the Redmi Note 9 Pro. There is also a Redmi Note 9 Pro sold in the global market, this update is NOT for that global Note 9 Pro.
Also, users of the Redmi Note 9S are feeling a little left out seeing as the Redmi Note 9, its predecessors the Redmi Note 8 Pro and the Redmi Note 7 Pro have already received updates to MIUI 12.
We have a detailed breakdown of the current state of MIUI 12 for the Redmi Note 9S/Redmi Note 9 Pro. These users can rest easy knowing that their units are eligible for an update to Android 11 so I guess that is something to look forward to.
Update 1 (August 27)
While MIUI 12 is being rolled out to several Xiaomi devices, it seems the wait is still not over for Redmi Note 9S/Note 9 Pro users. Xiaomi has recently started pushing MIUI 11-based August security patch that also brings a fix to Widevine L1 certification issue. Read the full story here.
