This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..

Original story (published on August 20, 2020) follows:

The Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Note 8 Pro were both excellent, affordable offerings from Xiaomi. The two smartphones released with Android 9 Pie onboard and have since then picked up the Android 10 update along with the MIUI 11 skin.

Furthermore, Redmi Note 7 Pro and Note 8 Pro have also bagged the MIUI 12 update in some regions. The update brings a bunch of new features and improvements to the devices. In fact, MIUI updates add most of the new features on Xiaomi devices instead of Android updates.

Speaking of which, the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Note 8 Pro are not eligible for the upcoming Android 11 update if we take into account Xiaomi’s update cycle for its devices. The Chinese OEM only pushes one OS update for its Redmi series with a few new exceptions.

Thus, it was but obvious that the Android 10 update for the Redmi Note 7 Pro and Redmi Note 8 Pro was the first and last OS update for the devices. However, it appears that many Redmi Note 8 Pro and Note 7 Pro owners were unaware of Xiaomi’s disappointing update cycle.

After an unofficial list of Android 11 eligible devices popped up on the Mi Community, it appears that many users are disappointed and frustrated with Xiaomi’s poor software support. We’ve added the unofficial list’s image below for reference:

As you can see, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 7 and Note 8 Pro are going to miss out on the Android 11 update, something which we expected as well. Nevertheless, here are some of the comments posted on the thread from frustrated Redmi Note 8 Pro, Note 7 Pro, and other Redmi users with devices that aren’t eligible for the Android 11 update:

It doesn’t end there, here are some more comments from the thread on Mi Community:

nothing for redmi note 8t people! Shame of Xiaomi!

Samsung Has Promised 3 Year Update… So I Need Latest Android and If i’m using Redmi After Every 1 Android Update i Have To Sell The Phone Right..

mi cc9e released July 2019, and it won’t get update just after one year. looks Xiaomi wants to loose customers

This just goes to show that companies shouldn’t be able to get away with providing only one OS update. In fact, Samsung seems to have figured this out too and has now announced that it will be providing up to 3 OS updates for some of its devices, including a few mid-range ones from the Galaxy A series.

So we hope other Android OEMs follow Samsung’s lead and step up their game when it comes to providing system updates. That being said, you can keep an eye out on our Xiaomi Android 11 update tracker to know when it arrives on your device.

Update 1 (September 04)
