Motorola Moto G6 Plus Android 10 update arrives as Pixel Experience & Pixel Experience Plus ROM

The Motorola Moto G6 Plus released back in 2018 and it came with Android 8.0 Oreo pre-installed. Since then, it bagged the Android 9 Pie update which it currently is running on. Earlier, we reported that the Android 10 update for the Moto G6 Plus is not on the cards.

This was also later confirmed by Motorola as the company officially ended software support for the device a couple of months ago. Thus, the Moto G6 Plus will not get the official Android 10 update and neither will it get security patches.

In a time where even Samsung has now announced 3 major OS updates for some of its devices, this news is a tad disappointing. But long-time Android users know that official updates aren’t the only way to get the latest Android version.

In fact, the Motorola Moto G6 Plus has already bagged the Android 10 update in the form of LineageOS 17.1. Custom ROMs usually tend to offer a lot more flexibility and features than stock OEM ROMs. Thus, losing official support for software updates isn’t all that bad.

And well, the good news doesn’t end just there because the Motorola Moto G6 Plus has now got support for the Pixel Experience and Pixel Experience Plus ROM. As the ROM’s name suggests, both custom ROMs offer a user experience similar to that what you get on Google’s Pixel line-up.

Further, both the Pixel Experience and the Pixel Experience Plus ROMs are based on Android 10. So while the Moto G6 Plus isn’t getting the official Android 10 update, at least users now have a couple of third-party alternatives.

Of course, flashing custom ROMs isn’t everyone’s cup of tea which is why it’s high-time OEMs start providing a minimum of two OS updates and at least 3 OS updates for mid-range and flagship models.
