This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..

Original story (published on August 15, 2020) follows:

Poco finally released the MIUI 12 update a few days ago for the Poco F1 after postponing the update several times citing bugs and stability issues. However, the update has been released for Mi Pilot testers only at the moment.

This means that users who didn’t sign up to be Mi Pilot testers will not get the stable MIUI 12 update on their Poco F1 just yet. Typically, Xiaomi releases some major updates for Mi Pilot testers first. This is done to ensure that no major bugs sneak their way into the devices of thousands of users.

Take for example the Poco X2, the company released the stable MIUI 12 update without it going through any prior Mi Pilot testing. Turns out, Poco had to pull the update soon after due to bugs that were present in the build.

It goes to show that prior testing is extremely important before pushing an update. But enthusiasts who don’t mind the occasional bug or two can usually opt-in to participate in beta testing programs such as the Mi Pilot program offered by Xiaomi.

However, users who didn’t sign up for the Mi Pilot program to test the MIUI 12 update on the Pocophone (Poco F1) have been looking to sneakily try out the update by downloading the update package manually and installing it on the device.

Well, as it turns out, the moderator of the Global Pocophone Telegram group has put out a statement to make non-Pilot testers aware that they will not be able to manually install the MIUI 12 update package that’s meant for Mi Pilot testers on the Poco F1.

**Please do not share pilot testing update links, it’s meant to be pilot testing to gather bug reports and help developers fix issues asap.

Pilot testing update is meant to be for testers only, normal users won’t be able to instal manually, please don’t try**

Therefore, we would suggest users heed the moderator’s advice and not try manually installing the MIUI 12 update right now. Doing this might lead you to unintentionally brick your Poco F1. Instead, you can check out the new features that come with the MIUI 12 update on the Poco F1 here.

Further, the update does not bring some MIUI 12 features such as the Super Wallpapers. Therefore, the update may disappoint some users. That being said, keep an eye out on our MIUI 12 update tracker to know when the update arrives on your device.
