At the beginning of this year, there surfaced reports about Facebook planning to integrate the social network messaging services to allow cross-messaging between the Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp.
And looks like the wait is over, as going by the latest user reports, the integration has been enabled at least between Facebook Messenger and Instagram. Some of you may have already encountered an update notification stating There’s a New Way to Message on Instagram on your mobile app.
With this update, the Instagram app users now have features similar to the Facebook Messenger like chatting with Facebook friends (replying to messages within the DMs), more colorful chats, more emoji reactions, and swipe-to-reply etc.
The Instagram DM logo (found on the upper right corner of the screen) has also been replaced with Facebook Messenger logo. While the update is hitting some of the devices, it appears the cross-messaging feature isn’t functional as yet.
Some users reports they’re not able to update the app, as they get an error, while others say uninstalling and re-installing the update reverts the change. Some also say that switching between accounts ends up reupdating the app to reflect the new features.
This could be the usual case of pilot testing on a small number of app users before making the feature public, because of which those who got the update are facing glitches. We’ll be keeping an eye on the developments here and will update you as and when the cross-messaging feature gets fully functional.
