Asus ROG Phone 3 next software update to address AeroActive Cooler 3 issue, says forum moderator

In the past few years, we have seen a new segment of Android devices that are geared towards gamers. These devices often spot the highest end internals, beefy batteries with flashy designs and dedicated accessories, all aimed at enhancing users’ gaming experience.

One of the more recent renditions of the same is the Asus ROG Phone 3. Launched a few months ago, this device is powered by the Snapdragon 865+ chip, has a massive 6,000 mAh battery, and runs Android 10 with Asus’s custom ROG UI on top.

Already, we have seen the device bag two important updates, one that enabled AirTrigger for gameplay, three-finger screenshots and brought a number of bug fixes, and another one which enabled VoLTE and HDR on Netflix among other fixes.

According to recent reports, however, one of these updates might have brought with it yet another bug to some users. A section of ROG Phone 3 users are reporting that they are unable to use the AeroActive Cooler 3 on their ROG Phone 3 after a recent update.

According to the affected users, the AeroActive Cooler 3 either doesn’t get recognized at all or the phone refuses to connect to it saying it is a wrong controller.

The affected users also report that basic troubleshooting including cleaning up the side port where the controller attaches and even a factory reset of the device yields little success.

While addressing this issue, an Asus moderator says that the technical team has been unable to recreate this problem. However, the company will be adding code to the next update that will force the device to update the AeroActive Cooler 3 firmware.

They replied that we haven’t been able to duplicate the issue ourselves but they will add some code into next FW that will force the Aerocooler 3 to reinstall it’s FW. Hopefully, this will fix the issue for you and anyone else who might have the same issue.
