India’s UPI (Unified Payments Interface) payment system has made it incredibly easy for users to make inter-bank transactions. The simplicity of UPI has led many individuals to begin using the digital-payment method on a daily basis.
Unfortunately, it appears that users with an SBI account have not been able to make any UPI transactions for the past couple of days. Many affected users have taken to Twitter to seek a response from the bank regarding the issue.
While most reports indicate that UPI transactions from SBI accounts are not going through via Google Pay, it does not paint the whole picture. This is because UPI transactions via SBI accounts aren’t working on other apps in the country such as PayTM, PhonePe, and BHIM UPI.

Dear @PhonePe_ I have trying to use SBI UPI but somehow since 2 days multiple times the transaction are getting unsuccessful. The same issue is faced by many of friends who have SBI UPI are also facing the issue.

Fortunately, SBI has not turned a blind eye to these reports. In response to some complaints from affected users, SBI has stated that there are intermittent connectivity issues with their UPI app and a team is working on resolving the issue.
Here’s the complete response from SBI via Twitter:
Dear Customer, We regret the inconvenience caused. There are intermittent connectivity issues with our UPI app. Our team is on the job to resolve it at the earliest. We suggest you to use our other digital channels.
The bank has not stated how long it will take for the problem to be fixed. Until then, SBI suggests its users try out other digital payment methods such as Net Banking. Now users will simply have to wait for the UPI services to resume as normal.
Update 1 (August 10)
Sadly, even after days, there is no new development on the matter. While users continue to encounter the issue, the official SBI twitter handle continues to repeat what they’ve been saying since the beginning – “our team is on the job to resolve it at the earliest.”
Update 2 (August 10)
The issue is still alive, with SBI support continuously assuring affected users that a fix is being worked upon. Here’s what they said a few minutes ago:

Update 3 (August 11)
Unfortunately, the problem continues to persist since SBI has not yet been able to fix it. Furthermore, the bank has yet again tweeted the same response as it did earlier in response to a user’s query regarding the issue.

Update 4 (August 11)
SBI is now suggesting users to use use the official Yono SBI and Yono Lite SBI applications to continue transferring money until the UPI servers are fixed. Further, some users are now claiming that the UPI transactions are now working for them. Check out the full story here.
Update 5 (August 13)
Finally, it appears that the SBI UPI server issue has been resolved after several days since the problem was first noticed. SBI responded to a user’s query on Twitter regarding the UPI issue by claiming that it has now been resolved. Thus, you should now be able to make UPI transactions as usual.

Update 6 (August 15)
Sadly, it appears the issue is back, and SBI support has acknowledged that they are working to fix it.

Update 7 (August 17)
The issue still stands unresolved, with SBI support continuously acknowledging “intermittent connectivity issues”, and giving the same assurance – “our team is on the job to resolve it” – to affected users.
Update 8 (August 18)
Sadly, there is no change in the situation – SBI support still giving the same response.

A different day, but the same situation for those affected by ‘SBI UPI not working’ issue.
Update 10 (August 20)
No luck today as well. It usually shouldn’t take so long for a service outage to get fixed, so it now appears something major may have happened. Anyway, we are keeping a close watch.
Update 11 (August 21)
In response to a user query, now the official UPI Twitter account has revealed that the issue is at SBI’s end, and the bank is working to resolve it.
Kindly note, the bank is proactively working to resolve the issue at the earliest

Latest reports surfacing on Twitter convey that the SBI UPI servers are down and the SBI YONO app is not working for the past few days, and users encounter the errors seen in the images below:

The Yono app outage has been officially acknowledged and while its being taken care of users are suggested to use OnlineSBI or the YONO Lite instead. Here’s what SBI has to say:

Update 15 (December 04)
RBI is currently checking why the SBI YONO application went down. The step was taken just after it had cracked down on HDFC Bank for having multiple outages according to a report.
At present, it’s not known what action the Reserve Bank of India will take against SBI.

It appears that many users are facing issues with the SBI Yono banking application since the past couple of days as reposts of the app not working or throwing an error have been taking over Twitter.
