New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….

Original story (published on August 07, 2020) follows:

Back in June, we saw Oppo unveil its new skin on top of Android 10, ColorOS 7.2. This skin brought with it a bunch of new features including Moonlight Night View video, AI App Pre-launch, Oppo Lab, and more.

Recently, we also saw Oppo tease some of the features coming in the custom Android skin. Well today, Oppo has announced the official launch of ColorOS 7.2 in India. This version of ColorOS comes pre-installed on the newly launched OPPO Reno4 Pro.

This Android 10-based ColorOS 7 update offers a range of improved and easy to use features that are both intuitive and convenient. The newly added features are all aimed at offering users a smarter and more efficient Android experience.

One of the highlighting features that come in ColorOS 7.2 is the Artificial Intelligence-powered app preloading. This feature learns from a user’s usage habits and learns from it. The phone then automatically preloads apps that it predicts the user would like to open next.

This, according to Oppo, cuts down on app launch times resulting to 23.63% faster app launches. This AI continuously learns and gets better with time so essentially, instead of your device lagging over time, it gets faster.

Another useful feature of ColorOS 7.2 is the new Super Power Saving Mode. This mode kicks in once your battery level gets low and this allows users to go for longer even on low battery.

The company says that ColorOS 7,2 is able to achieve this by throttling the device’s CPU and by intelligently managing the device’s backlight and adjusting it accordingly. According to Oppo’s tests, with this mode turned on, the Reno4 Pro with 5% battery can be used for WhatsApp messaging for up to 90 minutes or make calls for 77 minutes.

And then there’s the fun stuff. Oppo has also baked Oppo Lab into ColorOS 7.2. This experimental platform allows Oppo users and COlorOS developers to co-create features that could later be built into ColorOS. The company says that at the moment Oppo Lab consists of Lab ringtone, a tool that helps users create and share their own personalized ringtones.

Since devices have gotten pretty massive in recent times, it is only reasonable for ColorOS 7.2 to bring something to address that. Baked into ColorOS 7.2 is an icon pulldown gesture that allows users to bring the top-most elements of the UI down to the middle of the display. This means one-handed use is enhanced a little bit.

These are by no means, the only features coming in ColorOS 7.2. All the changes baked in are geared towards making the custom Android skin smarter, versatile and more efficient.

In the words of Manoj Kumar, Senior Principal Engineer for OPPO’s ColorOS:

“ColorOS 7.2 is designed to optimize and enrich user experience on a OPPO smartphone. All features are aimed to deliver a smoother, convenient and intuitive experience for the user. We have worked on extensive consumer insights to make the smartphone experience more customized and personalized as per the user’s sensibilities. With new and improved features for an enriched visual experience, enhanced accessibility and increased reliability, ColorOS 7.2 ensures an experience upgrade on the Reno4 Pro.”

Already, we have seen the Oppo Find X2 and the Find X2 Pro get Android 11 beta updates with ColorOS 7.2. We can only hope that Oppo strives to make this new skin available to even more devices and bring as many of the above-mentioned features to more Oppo devices.

Update 1 (August 21)

Oppo has not been able to provide an ETA for the release of ColorOS 7.2 on any of its smartphones. Thus, it seems that the wait for the ColorOS 7.2 update will continue indefinitely until the company shares more details. See the full story here.
