Realme 5 series & Realme 2 Pro Android 10 kernel sources released

The backbone of Android stems from not only the sheer number of Android phone makers we have today but also from the massive developer community that surrounds it. The Android community would not be complete without the developer community and the work they do to push Android forward.

In recognition of this, we have seen OEMs like Xiaomi strive to be as developer-friendly as possible by releasing kernel sources for many of their devices in a timely manner.

But Xiaomi is not the only developer-friendly OEM we have today. Realme is also playing real nice with this community with the release of kernel source code for many of their devices, most recently being that of the Realme 1 and the Realme U1.

In a bid to further enable the developer community, Realme is today making public the Android 10 kernel sources for a few more devices; the Realme 5 series and the Realme 2 Pro.

To recall, the Realme 2 Pro bagged the much-awaited Android 10 update earlier this month while the Realme 5 and Realme 5s got updated back in May with the Realme 5i following shortly after.

With this release of the kernel sources for the Realme 5 devices and the Realme 2 Pro, it is only a matter of time before we start seeing the initial Android 10-based custom ROMs for these devices. These builds should also be a lot more stable than they would have been had Realme not made these public.

We can only hope that more and more Android phone makers strive to make their devices’ kernel source codes public as this goes a long way in offering users alternative aftermarket firmware.
