TELUS Android 11 (Android R) update: Is your phone supported or eligible for OS upgrade?

The release of Android 11 is just around the corner. This new OS update will bring a host of new features and improvements over Android 10. Google first released the Android 11 beta last month and several other OEMs announced their beta programs.

To kick things off, OnePlus was the first to release the Android 11 beta update for the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Following that, brands such as Xiaomi, Realme, Oppo, and iQOO also released the beta update for their flagships.

Further, by the beginning of July, Android 11 beta was already available on 13 devices from 7 vendors. This is something that we’ve never seen in the history of Android updates. Earlier, major Android OS beta updates would only be pushed to Nexus and later, Pixel devices.

So it’s good to see that more OEMs have begun to take Android updates seriously. Further, Google has also made a tremendous effort to streamline these updates. However, updates for certain devices don’t necessarily rely only on OEMs.

Yes, we’re talking about carrier-branded phones from carriers such as TELUS. These phones often receive updates later than their unlocked counterparts. Although, after conducting their own testing, carriers often push updates within a month after unlocked units receive it.

And since the Android 11 update is near, you might be wondering which TELUS-branded smartphones will bag it. Well, that’s exactly what we’re going to take a look at now.

Typically, Android OEMs release 2 – 3 major OS updates for their smartphones. In fact, Google and OnePlus are the only major vendors that currently roll out 3 OS updates for their devices. This makes it a bit easy to predict which phones from which brands will receive the upcoming update.

Thus, it’s entirely possible that some of the TELUS-branded phones listed here may not receive the Android 11 update. Further, it’s also possible that a device(s) not listed here may bag the update.
