Even though Xiaomi has not been around for as long as some other players in the market, it already has a boatload of devices under its name. In fact, it seems the company releases a new device every couple of months.
This has led the company to adopt a rather terrible naming scheme for some of its devices. Take for example the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max. It was launched with the aforementioned name in India. However, in international markets, the device is simply known as the Redmi Note 9 Pro.
FYI, the Note 9 Pro in India is a separate device. Confusing names asides, the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max and the global Redmi Note 9 Pro launched with Android 10 running alongside MIUI 11. The devices are also in line to receive the new MIUI 12 skin that was announced a couple of months earlier.
In fact, the standard Redmi Note 9 aka Redmi 10X recently picked up the stable MIUI 12 update. Unfortunately, there’s not much information regarding the update for the global Note 9 Pro and Note 9 Pro Max.
And now it seems that the devices will be getting the Android 11 update too. In response to a user’s query regarding MIUI 12 for the Redmi Note 9 Pro, a moderator made the following statement:
It should get Android 11 as it’s a new device. But it may take some time before it reaches this device. Expect 2021. Note that Android 11 isn’t released yet (except for Beta), so it will take some time.
Of course, this is no surprise since both smartphones launched with Android 10 on board. And Xiaomi usually provides at least one major Android update for Redmi-branded phones. Thus, the Android 11 update for the global Redmi Note 9 Pro and the Redmi Note 9 Pro Max was expected.
Nonetheless, the comment from the mod has practically confirmed that the device will get the upcoming Android version. Of course, it’s too early to speculate by when it will begin rolling out. In a similar manner, a mod also confirmed that the Redmi Note 9S along with a few other Note 9 series devices will receive the update to Android 11.
Given the company’s track record, users may have to wait several months before the update is released. At present, Xiaomi has released the Android 11 beta for the Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro. Further, we’ve also compiled a list of Xiaomi devices that might receive Android 11.
