New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on July 23, 2020) follows:
OnePlus Nord was revealed a couple of days ago and will be available from August 4. While users are eager to get their hands on the device, it has already started receiving system updates.
The OnePlus Nord offers benchmark hardware and comes with Android 10 based OxygenOS 10 out of the box. It also has a six camera setup with two front and four rear sensors. All in all, the device is packed with a lot of features.
In terms of connectivity, the smartphone currently supports a single 5G SIM or dual 4G SIM cards. However, the OEM has mentioned in the footnotes of the official OnePlus Nord page that the device will get 5G+4G support via a future OTA update.
Currently supports dual 4G SIM cards or a single 5G SIM. 5G+4G support will be made available via an OTA update in the future.
Similar footnotes were added to OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro pages. This means that OnePlus will be building 5G-capable smartphones but it is also up for providing proper backward compatibility. OnePlus is one of the OEMs that like to stay on top of their game.
While 5G networks are still evolving, many network service providers like Vodafone and O2 in the UK (one of the markets that will get the Nord officially) are already providing 5G services. So, this information comes as good news as 5G users will be able to use 4G services too on their OnePlus Nord.
Meanwhile, those who pre-booked the OnePlus Nord will have to wait a little bit more before they get their devices. But, it is safe to say that OnePlus is way ahead in thinking about the future of its devices.
Update 1 (October 29)
New evidence suggests that OnePlus may enabled dual 5G+5G support with an OTA update of the OnePlus Nord. Unfortunately, the company has not made any official statement regarding when we can expect to see it enabled.
We’ve shared a screenshot posted by a OnePlus Nord user on the company’s community forum which shows the message regarding 5G on both SIM cards.
The company did enable dual 5G support on the OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro. Thus, it’s seems that it’s likely the same will be carried forward to the OnePlus Nord.
