Xiaomi’s Mi 6 was launched back in 2017 and was the company’s flagship offering at the time. It offered some of the best hardware but unfortunately, it wasn’t as widely available as most interested buyers would have liked it to be.
Apart from the excellent hardware, the device also came with Xiaomi’s MIUI 8 skin over Android 7.1.1. In 2017, MIUI was an excellent choice for many Android enthusiasts since it offered a boatload of features that weren’t available on other OEM skins.
It got the stable Android 9 Pie update around the same time last year. Cut to now, the device is still running on Android 9. Further, it’s the second major Android update to hit the Mi 6.
As most Android fans know, OEMs tend to push only 2 or 3 major Android updates for their phones. We previously reproted that the Mi 6 was missing from the MIUI 12 roadmap. The device was part of the MIUI 12 beta tests in China. However, all new builds released in July have dropped support for the the Mi 6.
Therefore, users have since been speculating that the device might not receive the Android 10 or MIUI 12 update. Unfortunately, the speculations can be laid to rest since a Mi Community moderator shed some light on the matter.
In response to a user’s question regarding the MIUI 12 and Android 10 update for the Mi 6 the mod made the following comment:
Hey,
Mi 6 wont get MIUI 12 and Android 10, For more info visit en.miui.com
Thanks
This comment has shut down all hopes for Mi 6 users to receive either of the two updates. But this was to be expected. The device already received it’s second major Android update and its third major MIUI update which is MIUI 11.
Further, since the device was left out from the MIUI 12 roadmap, it was but obvious that it will not get the latest skin. Nonetheless, several Xiaomi phones are yet to get either of the two software updates.
