[Updated] Poco M2 Pro users can uninstall banned apps while new build w/o pre-installed blocked apps is being worked on, company confirms

Xiaomi is having a tough time in India as it is trying to avoid being caught in the crossfire between India and China’s growing tensions. It’s no secret that Xiaomi is a China-based company. Thus, users are now a lot more concerned about the privacy and security of Xiaomi devices.

The company recently launched the Poco M2 Pro in India. But unlike previous launches which often got positive feedback, this launch was surrounded by a lot of negative coverage. This was due to the Poco M2 Pro privacy issues that we reported about earlier. In response to which Poco India penned an open letter.

Cut to now, a follow-up of the situation has been shared by C Manmohan, General Manager at Poco India. In the letter addressed to Poco fans, the company expresses their gratitude to fans for the overwhelming interest in the M2 Pro’s first sale.

Further, the letter also includes more information about the privacy concerns. According to this, users will now be able to uninstall any application that has been blocked by the Government of India. Previously, such applications could not be uninstalled.

Moreover, Poco is now working on a new factory image for the Poco M2 Pro. This new firmware/build will not come with any of the pre-installed applications that have been banned. Moreover, the Cleaner app issue is also being evaluated according to the company.

Xiaomi also responded to the Clean Master application issue for all MIUI devices. So it appears as though the company is doing its best to steer clear of the controversy it got itself stuck in.

On the note of new software, Poco is set to roll out MIUI 12 for the Poco F1 whereas the F2 Pro MIUI 12 stable build is now rolling out.

It appears that the stable MIUI 12 update has restored the banned Clean Master definition on the Poco X2 in India. Xiaomi/Poco has not yet made any official comment on the matter. For more details, head here.
