New updates are being added at the bottom of this story…….
Original story (published on July 08, 2020) follows:
Traditionally, we see Google officially unveil a new version of Android every August/September. Before that, the upcoming build of Android often undergoes vigorous testing and tweaking, coupled with milestone releases like a Developer Preview and Public Betas.
Android 11 has hit many of these milestones already and now focus is slowly shifting to the phone makers who now have to develop their respective skinned versions of Android 11. We have already seen reports of active Android 11 development from Huawei, Xiaomi, OPPO and Realme among others.
Sharp is not a company we hear much of in the smartphone industry. However, the giant Japanese company does have a number of Android smartphones in the market. Today, the company is kickstarting its Android 11 Developer Preview Program with the release of an Android 11 Beta build for the Sharp Aquos Zero 2.
The company is insisting that this is NOT a stable build and as such, is only meant for developers as it might contain serious bugs that make it unreliable as a daily driver firmware.
If you choose to install this Android 11 firmware on your Aquos Zero 2, the company says that you should re-register your fingerprint for it to work properly. Wireless Display (Miracast) also does not work on this build, and neither does Osaifu Keitai. However, reverting back to a stable build will bring back these features.
The company has also shared the download link to this Android 11 Developer Preview for the Sharp Aquos Zero 2. To reiterate, this is only meant for developers to allow them to test apps.

It is encouraging to see obscure Android phone-makers like Sharp being on the front line of developing Android 11. This is a sign of a pro-active OEM and we hope that the stable build of Android 11 rolls out to its eligible devices just as fast.
