This story is being continuously updated…. New updates are being added at the bottom…..
Original story (published on July 3) follows:
The MIUI 12 update for the Redmi Note 8 has been in the works for a few months now. Earlier, the company halted the MIUI 12 beta updates for the Redmi Note 8 and Xiaomi Mi CC9e.
Leaving the Redmi Note 8 out of the beta updates was done so that the device can be migrated from Android Pie to the beta version of Android 10 with MIUI 12 on top. FYI, Xiaomi has in the past revealed that the Note 8 Android 10 update will tag along MIUI 12 as well.
Cut to the chase, a new statement from the Mi Device Team on the company’s forums has finally shed some light on the matter. This statement was made in response to a question from a user who made a query regarding both Android 10 and MIUI 12 updates for the Redmi Note 8.
Thanks to this information, Redmi Note 8 owners are no longer in the dark about the MIUI 12 update based on Android 10. From the response, it’s clear that the update is around the corner. This adds some weight to a mid-June report that hinted at a July release date.
And we can safely assume that the update should roll out by the end of this month or early August, albeit if there are no major issues spotted during this test period.
Xiaomi is not only planning to release the update for the Redmi Note 8 but the Redmi Note 8T MIUI 12 update is also in the works. It’s expected to be released in a few months’ time.
At present, Xiaomi has already released the MIUI 12 stable update to a few devices. These devices are the Mi 9, Mi 9T Pro, Redmi K20, and Redmi K20 Pro. The company is expected to release the update for more devices in the following months. See an updated list here.
While the update for the device is expected to arrive shortly, we cannot unsee the fact that the stable Android 11 update is near. This means that even after the upcoming MIUI 12 update, the Redmi Note 8 will be running on an older Android version.
